Swim With Sally

About the Awards

The lessons are structured to enable the swimmer to work towards an award.  The lesson will be planned each week.  However there has always been a need for ‘flexibility’ within these sessions, as babies and children do have their individual needs!

The Baby Swim Foundation Programme is aimed at children from six weeks to approximately 2 ½ years old.  Children are taught various subjects that will help them develop the skills that enable confidence and safety in water, plus act as a foundation for learning to swim.  There are 4 levels to the scheme, Bronze Fish, Silver Fish, Gold Fish and Star Fish.  When the parent and child can demonstrate the required level of ability a certificate is awarded and they begin working towards the next level.

ASA National Plan for Teaching Swimming (NPTS) is an ‘all-inclusive programme’ which takes the non-swimmer from their first splash to developing confidence and competence in the water.  The national governing body for swimming in England, the Amateur Swimming Association has produced a national syllabus that begins with the Duckling Awards for children from 2 ½ years to 5 years old. This then leads on to the NPTS Stages 1-7, which enables the swimmer to become proficient in the water.

If they wish to participate further in an aquatic sport the Stages 8-10 is a specific discipline for them to pursue in Competitive swimming, Diving, Synchronised swimming, Water Polo and Rookie Lifesaving. Swim with Sally will teach up to Stage 7.  Distance awards are incorporated within the lessons.
